Rhnioplasty Post-operative Cares

  1. After nose operations, strongly avoid blowing your nose unless you are allowed to. If you need to clean your nose use a soft paper tissue or cloth.
  2. Change the bandage under the nose with sterile gauze if necessary.
  3. The taping and bandages over the nose will be removed after a week in the clinic so avoid damaging that splint. It should be kept dry and intact.
  4. Avoid eating foods which demand considerable chewing, otherwise there no restrictions for the diet.
  5. Rest more than usual. Avoid sexual contacts.
  6. Brush your teeth gently with a soft brush and avoid touching your upper lip frequently so the nose stays fixed.
  7. Try to avoid telephone conversations and excessive social activities at least 10 days after the operation.
  8. You can wash your face but be very careful not to wet bandage until it’s removed. Use the shower head and bath tub for cleansing.
  9. Avoid laughing, smiling and excessive activities of the facial muscles for a week.
  10. For a week after the operation, use clothes that can be buttoned from the front or back. Avoid wearing polo-neck shirts, pullovers and sweatshirts.
  11. Avoid stay in hot sun shine or close to high voltage lights. Heat causes more inflammation.
  12. Avoid swimming for a month.
  13. Swelling and inflammation is quite natural after the surgeries, so do not worry. These symptoms shall improve in 2 to 3 weeks. It takes up to 6 months to for the swelling to completely heal.
  14. Take an adult cold tablet and a Cephalexin capsule every 6 hours.
  15. Avoid wearing sunglasses for at least 3 weeks after the operation.
  16. You can use your contact lenses 2 to 3 days after the operation.
  17. Once the plaster split over the nose is removed by the surgeon, you can wash the skin with water and soap. This has to be done gently. When the bandage is removed you can use cosmetics to cover the skin discoloration.
  18. In case of any problems do not hesitate to call the clinic.
